She Ink-stone, named after its production base She County, is a treasure among ink-stones. Its name, emerged in the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, spread to the whole nation and endured through the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. She Ink-stone is distinguished by its tough and lustrous slate and exquisite texture. It feels like soft skin and sounds like metallic stone. Jade-like, modest and bright, the slate of it has three features: quick forming of ink, no harm done to the writing brush, and prolonged wetness of ink, thus winning the acclaim as No. 1 in the world. The carving of She Ink-stone is marvelous and strong with simple and unsophisticated styles. Beautiful and practical, She Ink-stone has always been one of the most sought collector's items among the literati and elite. It is also typical of Huizhou stone carvings, simple, elegant, vigorous in carvings and diverse in appearance. Its designs mostly come from landscape of the Yellow Mountain, Xin’an area, bridges, rivers, Chinese myths, legends and anecdotes of celebrities.
